- Academic Travel Abroad: The Odyssey Program

The Odyssey Program provides academic travel opportunities in the U.S. and abroad for students in The Art Institutes, including The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Off-campus study for credit represents a unique investment in an arts career, allowing students to experience other cultures and languages directly, enriching their academic, personal, and professional lives, and exposing them to art, design, and history in a global context. Students have traveled to Strasbourg, Paris, London Frankfurt, and Heidelberg with the Odyssey Program.

For some quarter-break trips students may earn course credit. To earn credit, students typically submit a journal of notes from the trip, write a substantial research paper, and/or produce portfolio-quality visuals based on their research and experience as part of the course requirements associated with their particular trip. While most Odyssey trips are scheduled during quarter breaks, quarter-abroad opportunities may also be available, in which students enroll in regular Art Institute courses taught by Art Institute faculty abroad.

The Odyssey Program creates new trips each year. These educational adventure allow students to travel, explore, and immerse themselves in the cultures and design concepts as well as the art and architectural history in their classes. The cost of the trips is in addition to regular college tuition and fees, but may, in some cases, be included in the student’s financial plan. To qualify for participation in an Odyssey Program trip, students usually must be full-time for two or more more consecutive quarters prior to travel. For more information
about the Odyssey Program contact the Dean of Academic Affiars.
